Last week, the children and staff celebrated World Book Day with a week full of activities and events focused on books and reading, and how much we love it! We began in style, as on Monday Hampton Vale was transformed into a magical world of book characters. We had everyone from Willy Wonka to Gangsta Granny joining in for a fun day of learning! In fact, at times it felt like we had been transported to Hogwarts with the amount of wonderful wizards we saw!
The amazing author Lou Kuenzler also spent the day with us on Monday. She presented four fabulous, enthusiastic talks about being a writer, giving the children an insight into what she does and offering tips on how to produce great stories. All of which clearly left the children excited and inspired, with many eager to ask questions and captivated during her story-telling. After her session she spent time meeting our budding authors and signed copies of her books – and answered yet more questions! Lou has also kindly agreed to judge the winners of our Book Week Story Challenge, so look out for the names of the lucky winners over the next couple of weeks.
Classes in Years 3, 4 and 5 were lucky enough to be given a special talk from our very own dazzling designer, Mrs Kenwood. She explained the role of the designer within the book publishing process, demonstrating what a rewarding and exciting career this can be. Again, this was met with much enthusiasm and she even agreed to oversee the design of a story some pupils are producing!
On Thursday morning, the Reception classes visited Hampton Library to enjoy a story and were given the opportunity to look around the library at the books on offer and were given some very useful information about the services it offers to the local community. Thankfully it was lovely, dry day for the walk there and back!
Our busy Book Week fi nished much like we all like a busy day to – in pyjamas with a cookie and a story!
We would like to thank everyone who worked so hard and help to make the week such a success; and we hope everyone enjoyed it as much as we did.
Roll on Book Week 2016! Keeeep reading!
